Armed Robbers Storm Sky Bank

A rmed robbers have attacked the Sky Bank branch in Ifon at the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state, Sahara Reporters just learned. The robbers numbering over twenty were said to have moved into some strategic locations when they entered the town. It was gathered that the robbers killed at least two policemen who wore mufti and engaged them a gun duel. The policemen were said to have been attached to the Sky Bank upon request from the Ondo State Police Command. A yet to be identified man was also killed in the gun battle as the robbers forced their way out to the town in a way to escape. An eyewitness told our correspondent in a phone conversation that the robbers stormed the bank premises at exactly 3 pm on Thursday afternoon. N95bn lost to herdsmen

  The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has revealed that clashes between farmers and herdsmen led to the loss of farm produce and property worth over N95bn within four years. He said this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday. According to the governor, the losses, which included those incurred by Fulani herdsmen, were recorded in clashes that took place between 2012 and 2016. He explained that his administration’s decision to end the senseless killings and wanton destruction of property informed the passage of the anti-open grazing bill into law.  The governor also revealed that threats issued by a splinter group of Miyyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association formed part of the last discussions he had with President Muhammadu Buhari when he paid him a visit at the Aso Rock Villa recently. President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised to the leadership of the National Assembly over the cancellation of the planned dinner for the lawmakers in the State House. The  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  reports that the President was to host the lawmakers to dinner at the new Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, by 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. He, however, met behind closed doors at his official residence with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara with the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and some presidential aides in attendance. Enugu Airport unsafe

The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Aviation on Thursday expressed worry over the deplorable facilities of some airports in the country and declared the Akanu Ibiam Airport unsafe. Sen. Muhammad Adamu (APC), representing Kebbi Central, expressed displeasure during a tour of the facility of the Port Harcourt International Airport. Adamu said that the Senate had between 2015 and 2017 appropriated funds for completion of the remodelling of airports across the country. In a report on the state of the Enugu Airport, Adamu said the situation was worrisome and needed urgent remedial measures to protect the airport users. Seizure of Tompolo’s properties By EFCC

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Thursday dismissed an appeal filed by Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo , seeking to set aside the decision of the Federal High Court, Lagos which empowered the EFCC to seize all the properties belonging to the ex-militant. Justice I. N. Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos, had on February 19, 2016 made an order seizing Tompolo’s properties for failure to appear to answer the charges against him. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on December 15, 2015 instituted a criminal charge against Tompolo and nine others over allegations of fraud at Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA. However, despite substituted service of the court summons effected on him, Tompolo refused to appear in court. Consequently, Justice Buba issued a warrant of arrest against him. Two former staff of BMPRO Makeup, a cosmetic company owned by Banke Meshida Lawal, were arrested in Lagos and swiftly transferred to the police headquarters in Abuja where they were detained for four nights over their alleged theft of N27 million. Nigerian govt takes ownership of funds in bank accounts not linked to BVNs

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has granted a request by Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for a temporary forfeiture of all funds held in bank accounts not linked to BVNs — and whose ownership could not be absolutely identified. Also to be seized by the Nigerian government are funds held in bank accounts without sufficient know-your-customer credentials, court documents seen by KALPETERZ  said. Industry experts expressed strong reservations about a lack of specific legal framework for the unprecedented forfeitures and potential coercion of banks by the federal authorities in separate interviews with  KALPETERZ  Saturday. No estimates were immediately available, but it is widely held that billions of naira remained trapped in the unlinked bank accounts since 2015 when the Central Bank of Nigeria ordered commercial banks to stop attending to new enrollees. The USS Ronald Reagan sailed into a South Korean port Saturday following week-long joint naval exercises that North Korea brands a “rehearsal for invasion.” Rear Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of Naval Forces Korea, said aboard the nuclear- powered aircraft carrier that that the drills enhanced the allies’ ability to coordinate operations. According to Fox News, the five-day drills that ended Friday involved fighter jets, helicopters and 40 naval ships and submarines from the two countries training for potential North Korean aggression. Court might jail DSS director

  Bright Chimezie, who was recently charged as a co-defendant alongside the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has urged the Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to imprison the Director of the Department of State Services in the state. Chimezie, in a motion which he filed before the court on October 19, 2017, argued that his continued detention by the DSS constituted an act of contempt of the court’s judgment, which was delivered on May 24, 2017. He contended that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who delivered the May 24 judgment, had also ordered the DSS to pay him compensatory damages of N5m for illegally detaining him. Through his lead counsel, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who filed the motion on his behalf, Chimezie urged the court to jail the DSS director for disobeying the said judgment. LOS ANGELES — Fifty-nine women in two weeks on two continents — those were the latest reported numbers Friday as the list of actresses, models and studio workers who have accused Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of everything from sexual harassment to rape continued to grow.
