2018 budget estimate illogical

Former Director of New Media for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Convener, Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju has described as illogical the 2018 Appropriation bill.

According to him, there are no projects to show that previous budgets were implemented. He said the President cannot account to what he said is the over N11trn proposed for both 2016 and 2017.

President Muhammadu Buhari had presented about N8.612 trillion as the 2018 Appropriation bill to a joint session of the National Assembly, saying the projected expenditure would drive rapid economic recovery.

He said at the session that with a benchmark of 45 dollars per barrel at an exchange rate of N305 to a dollar in 2018, the budget would consolidate on the achievements of previous budgets to aggressively steer the economy to the path of steady growth.

However, Adeyanju took to Twitter shortly after the Budget presentation to air his views.

He tweeted: “You looted 2016 budget You looted 2017 budget You are now telling us about 2018 budget, are you okay? Criminal Government

“What did you do with 2016 budget? What did you do with 2017 budget? Where is the N11trillion or the projects constructed?

“The president Buhari APC led government cannot account for over N11trillion from 2016 & 2017 budgets.

“This government cannot boast of any N10billion project anywhere in Nigeria in the last 2years. This is the most corrupt government ever.

“N6.8tr in 2016 N7.4tr in 2017 Now, N8.612tr for 2018 There are no projects in any part of the country by this government.

“How can Nigeria develop like this? A budget of N8.6trillion, only N2.4trillion on Capital expenditures. That’s money they are going to loot.

“How can president Buhari present an N8.6trillion budget for 2018 when he can’t account for over N11trilion from 2016 & 2017?

“The Buhari led APC Govt cannot account for N18.7trillion to be specific: 2015: N4.6 Trillion 2016: N6.8 Trillion 2017: N7.4 Trillion.”

The Price of Partnerships

“On the entry into force of this Agreement, all prohibitions or restrictions on imports or exports affecting trade between the two Parties shall be eliminated, with the exception of the customs duties and taxes and the fees and other charges…implemented through quotas, import or export licensing or other measures. No new measures shall be introduced.” ― Article 34, West Africa-EU EPA, December 3, 2014 With one million Africans estimated to be on their way to Europe via the Sahara-Mediterranean corridor, awareness is growing that curbing migration will only be possible if Africans can see a future for themselves where they were born. For too many, that is not the case. Both African and European leaders share the responsibility and might be on the brink of repeating the mistakes of the past, once more.
