Gunman attacks First Baptist Church, kills 27 worshippers

A gunman has reportedly opened fire at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs Texas, leaving up to 27 people dead.


kalpeterz reports that the incident took place about half an hour into Sunday morning service in the small community.
It added that witnesses reported seeing a man walk into the church at around 11.30am local time before hearing gunfire ring out.
Victims have been taken to a nearby hospital, just 15 miles away from the church, with many being airlifted there by helicopters.
The shooter is now believed to be dead and was taken down “after a pursuit”.

Meanwhile, Texas state Governor, Greg Abbott, released a statement about the shooting via Twitter, indicating that the state Department of Public Safety would be responding to the incident.
“Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response. More details from DPS soon,” he tweeted.
In another statement released an hour later, Abbott wrote, “While the details of this horrific act are still under investigation, Cecilia and I want to send our sincerest thoughts and prayers to all those who have been affected by this evil act.”
Also, President Trump, who is currently visiting Japan, wrote on Twitter, “May God be with the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan.”
