PDP sweeps Enugu Council polls

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has swept the election conducted on Saturday in the entire 17 local government areas in Enugu State.
DAILY POST reports that the party also swept all the 258 councilorship positions announced so far.
The election result was declared by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, on Sunday.
It was announced by chairman of the commission, Mike Ajogwu, SAN.
The ENSIEC chairman said elections did not hold in two wards in Udi Council Area: Obioma and Eke. Ajogwu, however, said it did not affect the result of the chairmanship election conducted in the council.
He gave the total number of registered voters in the two ward as ‎7892, and said it would no be of any effect considering the margin between the PDP candidate and the APC winners. While the APC polled 4731, while the PDP won with 54,331.
Ajogwu, who debunked reports of violence during the election, said the election remained free, fair and credible.
‎According to him, “I monitored the election; anybody that was part of the process will find out that it was very free, fair and very credible.
“All the result sheets were genuine; claims of fake result sheets were false; nobody can contemplate of anything fake here.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has vowed to head to court to challenge the outcome of the exercise.
Chairman of the party in Enugu, Barr. Ben Nwoye, who addressed journalists alleged that there was no election across the State.
Nwoye who added that there was widespread violence, queried: “even if the ENSIEC does not want to do election, does it worth the blood of anybody?”
He alleged that the electoral body disenfranchised the people of the State by making sure that no result sheet was brought to polling units, after which already prepared results were announced.
He declared that “in this circumstance, we have no other option than to go to court; we won’t call for cancellation because there was no election in the first place; you cannot cancel what does not exist; so we are going ahead to challenge the outcome of the charade they did today in court.
“We have got reports of violence across the State; even the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 governorship election, Barr. Okey Ezea was tortured. He was abducted, beaten and the worst could have happened but for the intervention of security agents. As I speak to you, he is in hospital receiving treatment. Several other persons were wounded during the exercise.”

The Price of Partnerships

“On the entry into force of this Agreement, all prohibitions or restrictions on imports or exports affecting trade between the two Parties shall be eliminated, with the exception of the customs duties and taxes and the fees and other charges…implemented through quotas, import or export licensing or other measures. No new measures shall be introduced.” ― Article 34, West Africa-EU EPA, December 3, 2014 With one million Africans estimated to be on their way to Europe via the Sahara-Mediterranean corridor, awareness is growing that curbing migration will only be possible if Africans can see a future for themselves where they were born.
